Northern Lights – second approach – clock ticking

Checking that this thing still works. Seems to. The block editor thing is new, but appears to work.

If you look down towards the bottom of the Adventures page, you’ll see one called “Northern Lights”, almost exactly ten years ago. We’re not going to exactly retrace those steps, but we’ll be visiting a couple of the same places.

On the up-side for aurora spotting: we have new cameras and tripods and the sunspot activity is at a maximum, with bright aurora having been spotted at low latitudes. On the down-side, the weather predictions for just about the whole itinerary are for closed-in, cloudy conditions. So we might not see anything at all.

Oh, well. It’s been a long time since I traveled (Chile and Antarctica in 2020) so I’m worried about having enough gear and whether we’ll be able to pack everything we need into the duffels and carry-ons that we have, but excited to see new places and have new adventures. Some of the stuff we need to pack still hasn’t arrived in the mail, so some nervous waiting there too.

We’ll be starting in Berlin, the first visit there for us, and finishing in Paris, one of our favourites, and hopefully a chance to replace the Laguille bottle-opener pocket knife that I lost to airport security on the Greenland trip (I think). In between we’ll visiting Göteborg, aurora-spotting in Abisko and Olderdalen, back and forth through Tromsø lufthavn, in Svalbard for Christmas, Oslo for new year, and a first visit to Helsinki to round out the wintery North.

Three and a bit weeks to blast-off!
