Too late for much here. Hopefully I’ll get back to flesh this out tomorrow.
Glacier (Solheimajokull) was the dustiest that I’ve seen: the bergs in the melt pool were mostly completely black. Also possible to walk quite close to the face, which is unusual. According to the histories, the face was once right at the carpark, but today there’s a fair walk up the valley to get to it.
The first waterfall (Skógafoss) was a corker though. That’s the one I have in the feature photo. Not the best of my photos of it, but the sun came out towards the end of our visit, and that produced a rainbow, which was lovely. We stopped for lunch at Mia’s Country Van fish and chips shop, which is a brightly painted (red with white polka dots) trailer, parked near the road to Skógafoss. Fresh cod, beer batter, wedges and tartare sauce. An old combination but such a good one.
The second waterfall (Seljalandsfoss) was the one that you can walk behind. It was also quite a spectacular fall, but not as big and majestic as the first. Of course I walked around behind the fall. Got slightly moistened, but no permanent harm. Natural spectacle as amusement ride.
On to our place for three nights at Eyrarbakki, separated from the beach by a protective berm, so no view of the water when sitting down, but you can hear it, and it’s there when you stand up. Lovely place. Quiet.
